OECMs, Digitisation, Geographic technologies, Conservation, Participatory governanceAbstract
This article analyses the transformative potential of digitalisation and geographic technologies in advancing Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) through a comparative analysis between Mexico and Italy. The research addresses the gap identified in the literature regarding the practical application of digital tools for recognising and managing OECMs in various geographical and institutional contexts. Specific objectives include: (1) assessing how geographic technologies support the identification of potential OECMs; (2) analysing differences in national approaches to OECM recognition; (3) identifying opportunities and challenges in integrating digital tools with participatory governance.
