Abstract

The twenty-year period between 1920 and 1940 is important for the branches of Geography in Italy since it shows the progressive achievement of an Economic Geography that is continually being enriched by contents and methods and consolidates its specificity. In Southern Italy some distinguished scientists — active in particular among the universities of Bari, Naples and Catania — together with the innovations in university organization due to the transformation, in the Thirties, of the Royal Institutes of Economic and Commercial Sciences in faculties of Economics and Business within the main universities, contribute to this process. With this paper the Italian Geographical Society participated in the research of the national working group coordinated by professor Barucci on The Italian economic culture in Southern Italy between the two world wars.
