Abstract

The premise of a radical change regarding to contemporary urbanization, evidenced in a new physical and social structure of the city, is the main idea of this essay. This idea is applied to Bogotá, a city strongly transformed by the neoliberal globalization process since the 90's. Then, the objective of the essay is to examine the new sociospatial structure, using a multivariate technique of Principal component analysis. The paper is organized in four parts: a discussion about the industrial city and its nature; the description of Bogotá´s change towards an economical structure dominated by the tertiary; a Principal component analysis in order to identify the contemporary social ecology of the city and its relationship with a liberalized economy; and finally, the conclusions focused on characterizing a new social morphology in Bogotá.
